The Director is a full-time professional housing personnel responsible for managing the residence hall directors and resident assistants.
Hall Directors are full-time, professional housing personnel responsible for managing the individual Residence Halls. Hall Directors encourage the development of a positive living and learning environment within their halls. They are trained to assist students with personal and academic issues, to enforce college policies and to plan and implement Residence Hall and campus activities.
Hall Directors are also responsible for handling disciplinary issues within the halls, coordinating the work of other staff members within the halls and maintaining cooperation with and referral to other departments and services within the college. In addition, they work with various student groups within the hall. Each director lives in the hall and has an office within the building.
Resident Assistants (RAs) are student staff members (usually sophomores), who have been selected for their desire to work with people, their leadership abilities and their human relations skills. RAs live and work within the Residence Halls.
The primary concern of the RA is the welfare and safety of each resident in their assigned wing. RAs work to establish a positive living and learning environment in their wing and are available to assist individuals or groups of residents with academic, social, personal and other concerns.
Enforcement of hall and college rules and regulations is another aspect of the RA position. The RAs have been trained in such areas as crisis intervention, counseling, leadership and discipline.
