Students in Yavapai College's Residential Building Technology program have a new parcel of land on which to build an upcoming house, thanks to the generosity of local developers and builders Darcy and Becky Howard and Ron and Shirley Hutter.
The Howards and Hutters have donated land located at 142 E. Soaring Avenue in the Estancia de Prescott subdivision on West Rosser Street between the Eagle Ridge and Prescott Lakes subdivisions. The donation was made the Yavapai College Foundation, to be used for the Residential Building Technology program, which gives students hands-on training in the home building field, from architectural design to completed construction.
Approximately one-half acre in size, the property was appraised at $174,000.
"This generous gift from the Howard's and Hunters is part of their desire to give back to the community that has been so good to them and help students prepare for a successful future in the construction industry," said YC President Dr. Jim Horton. "Because of their generosity, we anticipate that the Residential Building Technology program will grow and expand, thus providing even more students with practical, functional skill training to prepare them for significant careers."
In support of the Residential Building Technology Program, the Yavapai College Foundation purchases the lot and materials for homes and a percentage of the net proceeds from the sale of the home go into an endowed scholarship fund.
