Roughrider Club Scores Homerun with New Amenities

Roughrider baseball players and fans will enjoy two new amenities thanks to the hard work of the Roughrider Club and some very generous donors. Two substantial projects this year include a new scoreboard and a new baseball clubhouse.

The Roughrider Club contributed $25,000, with the balance donated by Bobby Howry, a former YC baseball player now with the Cubs, and Lewis Rice of Jackson Hewitt Tax Service in Cottonwood. “Tiny” Kenson of Kenson Construction and Arizona Public Service donated installation costs.

Clubhouse

Other donors included MLB player Ben Diggins, the City of Prescott, the YC Baseball Team, YC Athletics, Ray and PattyNewton, “Tiny” Kenson of Kenson Construction (general contractor), Darcy Howard, Element Roofing, Taylor Architects, The Granite Shop, Creative Touch Interiors, Lindberg Construction and Lindberg Drywall.

“The building gives us an area to meet and have a place for players to store their equipment,” said Head Baseball Coach Sky Smeltzer. “The fans will have real bathrooms and a real concession stand. I believe that with our new stands, scoreboard and facility, we now have the nicest facility in the conference.”

“The estimated value of the facility is much more than the cost,” Bockrath said. “We never could have done it without the support of these donors.”

The Roughrider Club’s support of these projects was bolstered in part because of its increased membership. Jud Joyce, chair of the Roughrider Club, says the auxiliary will continue working to increase membership and fund-raise, to ensure that future teams will have needed support.
