Faculty: Tegrity FAQ

Why are students locked out of the Tegrity Viewer? It says they are not enrolled in my course when they attempt to log in.

This happens sometimes. Please let me know, and in the meantime they can try accessing your Tegrity Viewer by logging in at http://europa.yc.edu.

Can I make a link to sessions from anywhere in Blackboard?

Yes, and thankfully it's easier than before to link Tegrity sessions anywhere.

  1. Open the Tegrity viewer page from Blackboard.
  2. Check the square box next to the session you want to link.
  3. Click the drop-down menu at the lower left side of the page, and select "get class link".
  4. Click the "Copy to Clipboard" button from the dialogue box and then click "Close".
  5. Then go the “add a new external link item” in any content area of your Blackboard course, and paste the copied shortcut in to the “URL” field to create the link.

Email the session link to your students
Follow steps 1-4 above, then paste the link into an email message.

Can I use Tegrity on a Macintosh Computer?

All recordings made after January 2008 are viewable on Macs running OS 10.5 or later (although it has worked with 10.4). AND Instructors may now make recordings on a Mac. Recordings made earlier are only viewable on Windows, though the podcast versions are available for both platforms. Contact Thatcher Bohrman, 776-2352, thatcher@yc.edu for details.

Can I use one session for more than one course?

Yes. In the Tegrity viewer page, select the session(s) you want to copy by checking the box to the far left of the session, then select "Copy" from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page. In the dialogue box that opens, click on the "Search" button to show a list of your Blackboard courses. Select the course you want to copy to and click "OK".

Why don't I see the video in my sessions?

enhanced recording modeUse the new "Enhanced Recording Mode" if you want the video camera to appear at all times: select "Settings" from the recording set up window, and check the box next to "Enhanced Recording Mode". Be aware that this mode may crash your computer if it doesn't have enough processing power!

If you aren't using the new "Enhanced Recording Mode", the video camera doesn’t always record. Tegrity records your camera video only under these 3 conditions:

  1. You are in a PowerPoint Slide Show.
  2. You are using annotations.
  3. You select the video camera icon from the annotations toolbar (see below), and click on the thumbnail that pops up. This will force the video signal into the large screen of the Tegrity session.

Seeing this “monitor” icon (see below) indicates you ARE recording with the video camera.

Does Tegrity work in Vista?

YES, it does EXCEPT in Vista 64-bit version. You will have to disable Vistas UAC security settings before installings. Follow the directions below.

Resolution:

  1. Launch MSCONFIG (System Configuration) by from the Start menu
  2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC". Click on that line.
  3. Press the Launch button
  4. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
  5. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.
  6. Note that you can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAP" line and then clicking on the Launch button.

Naming Sessions: Don't Use A "&"!!

Using the ampersand (&) in the name of a session will cause problems, so just don't.

Actions Menu Not Visible

If the "More Actions" drop-down menu at the bottom of the Tegrity viewer page is not there, maximize the window. You should then be able to see the content at the bottom of that window.

Adding Links in Tegrity sessions

Help students by adding the link to Tegrity FAQs right into every session! To do this, simply click the "Settings" button in the Tegrity viewer, then add this link in the "Links" area: http://www2.yc.edu/content/tels/resforstudents/TegrityStudentFAQ.htm and call it: "Tegrity FAQs"

How do Tegrity sessions move from one semester's Blackboard course to another?

When you use "Course Copy" to copy course content from one semester to another, selecting "Settings" will copy the Tegrity button into your chosen course. HOWEVER! You must then REMOVE THE TEGRITY BUTTON by choosing "Manage Course Menu" from the Control Panel in the course you copied TO, and Removing the Tegrity button. THEN open the Tegrity viewer page in the course you want to copy from, and copy sessions from that course to the other(s) using the options in the Tegrity viewer page: select the session(s) you want to copy by checking the box to the far left of the session, then select "Copy" from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page. In the dialogue box that opens, click on the "Search" button to show a list of your Blackboard courses. Select the course you want to copy to and click "OK". LAST STEP: Create a new Tegrity recording session "test" and upload it to your new course.

Summary

  1. Copy course content from one Blackboard course to another if applicable.
  2. Remove the Tegrity button from that course.
  3. Copy sessions from one course to another using the copy function in the Tegrity viewer page.
  4. Create a new Tegrity session, and upload it to the Blackboard course.
