On-Campus Employers

Since 2001, we have tripled the number of YC student employees. In 2005, 77 different offices employed student employees. In addition, the number of off-campus listings and students seeking jobs has skyrocketed. We value the personal service of the good ol’ days, but realize the need to make some changes.

Our new Job Finder software is set up so that you can easily activate a job at your convenience.

Procedures For Hiring A Student Employee – For On-Campus Employers

We ask that your job be "posted" in our Job Finder system at least 24 hours before you actually start the hiring process. We'd like to give all qualified students looking for on-campus employment a chance at your job, and you, an opportunity to select from the best!

Posting a Job for Student Employees

  • Step 1: Log in to Job Finder. If you forgot your user name and password, call us first rather than opening another new entry for yourself.
  • Step 2: At your employer home page "Welcome", select My Jobs, Job List. See if the job that you wish to edit or re-activate is listed there. If it's not, call us.
  • Step 3: Double click on the job you wish to post, edit, or re-activate. Make sure it has the correct corresponding charge center number/account (your desired department account/fund number). Find this number under the blue heading Posting Information toward the bottom of the box after Allow Online Referrals. If it's not there, call us.

Student Employment Office, Prescott, (928) 776-2100 Student Employment support, Verde Valley, (928) 634-6502

You can edit an old job

There's no need to create a new job if you've already created one in the past with the same job title and description.

Need to hire more then one student?

With Job Finder you can enter any number of students for your job.

It's okay to separate one job into two jobs with a similar description if:

  1. one requires a Federal Work-Study student and the other does not require Federal Work-Study eligibility; or
  2. one has an account number with funds available during a time period other than the normal fiscal year.

Filling Out a Student Employment Authorization (SEA)

  • Step 1: Students inquiring about your job posting must first come to the Student Employment Office to fill out some required paperwork before they interview with you. At the interview, they will bring you a copy of their YC Student Employment Application and an SEA. If you hire them, fill out Step 2 of the SEA and keep the copy for their job application for your files.
  • Step 2: The student must return to our office immediately, at least 48 hours in advance of beginning work for you, to fill out the balance of their required paperwork in order for them to get paid.

NOTE: This paperwork must go to our YC Human Resources Department first, then some onto YC Payroll. So allow a week (from the time the student has fully completed the paperwork) before the student gets formally entered into our Payroll system.

All students applying for on-campus jobs must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Logging Student's Hours

Student employees may work no more than 25 hours per week during our regular fall and spring semesters.

One hundred percent of a student's wages will be charged to your department's student employment account number once their Federal Work-Study (FWS) award is exhausted.

Please keep a log to anticipate this, and be aware that the student may be also working for another department (sharing the FWS benefits).

See the YC Student Employment Handbook for details.

Advantages of Hiring a Student Employee

  • YC studies show that students who work on our campus have a very high retention rate.
  • If you hire a student who is Federal Work-Study eligible, you pay only 25% of the student’s wages from your budget. Federal Work-Study pays the other 75%.
  • We help them earn what they need to pay for college expenses.
  • They gain valuable work experience that benefits them after they leave YC.
  • Student employees are exempt from the FICA (Social Security/Medicare) tax—a savings of approximately 54 cents per the starting $7.00 per hour pay rate.
  • The college also is exempt from the same FICA tax rate for student employees saving Yavapai College money, too.

Post Your Employee Needs on Job Finder

Please post your job openings here for student employees through Job Finder, our web-based job posting and referral system. Follow the steps at "Procedures For Hiring A Student Employee".
