About the Code

Yavapai College expects all students to follow policies and procedures which are designed to ensure the well-being and rights of all students. The judicial system is designed to educate and enhance our learning community.

Violations which occur in the Residence Halls are generally heard by the Residence Hall staff. All other complaints are sent directly to the Office of Judicial Affairs.

What is the Code of Conduct?

The Code of Conduct is a description of the rights and obligations each student has as a member of the Yavapai College learning community. You may obtain a copy of the Code of Conduct through the following link:

What happens if I am charged with violating the code of conduct?

If charged with a violation, you will be notified to appear for a Hearing Conference with a Hearing Officer.

What is a hearing conference?

A Hearing Conference is a meeting with a Hearing Officer to determine the truth of the incident, your involvement, and to deliver sanctions, if necessary. If you reject the decision of the hearing officer, or at the discretion of the hearing officer, the case will be referred to the judicial appeals board.

What is the judicial board and who sits on it?

The judicial board is a group of faculty, staff and students trained to adjudicate cases. Judicial board members must maintain the highest degree of sensitivity and confidentiality.

Do all cases go before a judicial board?

Cases referred to an appeals board are those not resolved at the hearing conference.

What kind of penalties are there if I am found responsible for a violation of the conduct code?

A range of sanctions may be imposed when students are found in violation of the code of conduct. Sanctions include written and verbal warnings, educational referrals, community service assignments, restitution, college and housing probations, suspensions, expulsions, and involuntary withdrawal policy.
