Adult Basic Education (ABE) provides adults with an opportunity to improve basic reading, writing, and math skills to gain pre-GED skills.
General Educational Development (GED) Study Program
- GED is a way for individuals to earn a high school equivalency diploma.
- Free classes, books, and materials are funded by the Arizona Department of Education.
- The classes are open to adults age 16 and older.
- Students attending the orientation who are 16 or 17 years of age must bring a separation notice from the last public or private school attended.
- Home schooled students require a letter from the Department of Education.
GED Testing
- The ABE program does not run or administer the official GED test.
- Individuals with questions concerning the official GED test should contact the Assessment and Testing Center.
- There is a fee for this test.
- If you have questions concerning the results of official GED tests taken more than a year ago, please contact the Arizona Department of Education, Division of Adult Education.
- Individuals interested in taking a practice test can do so by contacting the nearest ABE/GED site.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
- The non-credit ESOL classes are designed for individuals who are learning English.
- If students have higher level English skills, they can contact Mary Verbout (928.776.2095) for further information and to sign up for the credit ESL class.
Registration and orientation is required; please call 928.776.2088 to be added to the ESOL waiting list to attend the next orientation.
ABE Transitions Program
- This program assists individuals with making the transitions from ABE classes into Yavapai College or other training programs.
- Services include career and college exploration as well as scholarship opportunities.
Basic Skills Enhancement
- Sometimes adults who have a high school diploma find that they need a brush up or need to learn new reading, writing, communication, and math skills.
