Blackboard is a software program used by faculty, students, organizations and clubs at Yavapai College.
Faculty and students use it primarily as an online classroom resource, both for traditional and Internet classes. You may hear it referred to by its technical acronym, CMS, which stands for Course Management System, but in general, you'll just hear instructors and classmates refer to it as Blackboard.
The Career Skills Program provides a safe and fun environment for you to learn how to use the various features in Blackboard.
No, Blackboard is a program you access from the Internet. Yavapai College purchases the software and maintains it on their site. You'll need a computer with Internet access, and occasionally some software extensions (called "plug-ins") that allow you to view multimedia content from your instructor or classmates.
When you sign up for a class that uses Blackboard, you'll be able to "access" the class via the Yavapai College Blackboard Login Page. In order to log in to your class, you'll need to know your Yavapai College username and password.
When you register for classes at Yavapai College, your username and password are automatically generated and printed on your schedule of classes. If you can't remember your username and/or password, you may contact the Registration Office at 928-776-2149 or 800-922-6787, ext. 2149 to request that the information be sent to you.
Blackboard is a fun and interactive "virtual" classroom environment. At Yavapai, you will probably use Blackboard in many of your classes as a resource area where your instructor will post interesting links, homework assignments, and quizzes or exams.
If you take an online class, Blackboard will become your virtual classroom where you will "meet" your instructor and classmates in the Discussion Board, or possibly even the chat area.
