College can be challenging and seem like a whole new culture! Start YOUR college career with information that will help you succeed - by attending SOAR (Student Orientation, Assessment/Advisement, and Registration). This is a free, fun, and informative program that will help you get your Yavapai College career off to a great start. Programs generally last 3 - 4 hours.
Yavapai College believes correct course placement is a powerful factor in student retention and success. Therefore, the college requires assessment of competency in reading, writing, and mathematics, and individualized academic advisement.

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE READING, WRITING, AND MATH ASSESSMENTS IF YOU:
The assessment includes sections on reading, writing, and mathematics. Study guides to help you prepare for the assessment are available at the Student Enrollment and Advising Center and on the Testing Services website.
The assessment is not an admissions test and the results will have no effect upon your acceptance as a student at Yavapai College.
You are welcome to bring high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores to assist advisors with college course placement.
You must present a photo ID at the time of the assessment, and provide your student ID number or Social Security number.
If you are a new student without a high school diploma or GED and you expect to receive Title IV funding (federal financial aid), you may use the skills assessment for the "ability to benefit "requirement.
Please let the test monitor know you want to use the assessment results for this purpose.
If you need to request special accommodations for SOAR, please contact the Disabilities Resources Coordinator at (928) 776-2079, prior to scheduling.
If you cannot attend SOAR on one of the scheduled dates, please contact the appropriate campus location (phone numbers above) to discuss individual circumstances.
